Remember Jersey Shore: The Nerd Edition? Well, we’ve really captured a niche market here. Last weekend, Leslie and I tackled “I’m On a Boat,” nerd-style. (You can do the same thing by taking the Chicago Architecture Foundation river cruise. )
What do you do when your bestie from college comes to visit? You start with coffee, granola and yogurt. You go downtown, visit the Hubbs at work and bring him some Wow Bao (steaming hot Asian buns!) for lunch. You walk down Michigan Avenue and take photos at the Bean.
You eat a couple mediocre food items at the Taste of Chicago. You camp out on the lawn for a chance to relive some childhood memories and watch Salt-n-Pepa perform a quick but fun set.
You go to the 96th floor of the Hancock Center, order some girly martinis and enjoy a killer view. Especially in the women’s restroom.
You continue the night with a few drinks at the California Clipper. You sleep in. You walk around Wicker Park. You make cobbler.
And, of course, you get on a boat. You take a boat ride on the Chicago River, where you hear all about the different styles of architecture and some of the major buildings in the city.
You can see reflections of other buildings in these big glass facades. Mr. Willis (nee Sears) has his head in the clouds (it seems to happen to these tall skyscrapers here all the time). Just like me (again). I’m dreaming that summer will last forever.
