Now with advice!

12.29.2015 by Suzanne // Leave a Comment

I’ve started answering questions in my “I HEART WORDS” email letters, which come out sporadically once or twice a month.

In the most recent one, I talk about how to stay in touch with people you love, even if they’re three time zones and thousands of miles away.

Would you like some advice? You can submit your anonymous questions, complaints and queries right here on this embedded Google form!

I love the joy of discovery, especially oddities and good reads on the internet.

So I’m  smitten with the timely, informative, interesting stories I’ve found via This.cm. It’s a crowd-sourced site to share links. But unlike the flood of so many other sites, an account can post only once per day. I follow 38 people right now, so AT MOST, if every single one posts their one link a day (and most do not), then that’d be 38 links to skim.

Unlike Twitter, which is flooded with bons mots, trolls, personal updates, and more posted a million times a second, This.cm is just interesting links.

Unlike Facebook, where you have to wade through breaking life news, boring status updates, cute baby pictures and the latest seasonal meme pic, This.cm is just interesting links.

There are writers, editors, media publications, thinkers and regular people (including me). You can connect with Twitter to find people to follow, or look at their featured members and try some of those. It’s been one of my favorite stops to find interesting perspectives on the world, great news reporting, unusual long-form features, and much more.

Here are a few of my favorite reads from the last few weeks:

  • The Hateful Life and Spiteful Death of the Man Who Was Vigo the Carpathian
  • This Is a Story About Loss: On losing things, losing people, and finding God at Unclaimed Baggage Center
  • Unfollow: How a prized daughter of the Westboro Baptist Church came to question its beliefs

This post is NOT sponsored by This.cm, I simply like it and want you to join me there. 🙂

I heart words: A newsletter

11.03.2015 by Suzanne // Leave a Comment

I’ve been swimming in the deep end of the email newsletter pool: Reading them voraciously, reading about them, and sending my own sporadic missive of interesting internet finds.

My ongoing favorite reads are the news-and-tech-heavy NextDraft (daily), Austin Kleon’s weekly update of creative inspiration, Lena Dunham’s feminism-focused Lenny and freelance writer Ann Friedman’s sometimes-overwhelming link round-up.

What I like: Finding interesting things to read. Discovering new people, ideas and publications in my email inbox. Overloading my Pocket queue with saved items to savor on my iPad later.

You can sign up for mine, called “I HEART WORDS,” on TinyLetter. Here’s a slightly abridged version of my latest (which I sent out on Halloween, thus the skeletons).  [Read more…]

The Wilder

By day, I manage editorial teams, and by night, I manage a goofy, red-headed toddler and a suburban house. I dabble in writing of all kinds: blogs about domesticity and motherhood, fragments of a novel, heartfelt essays, and occasional magazine articles about interesting places and people.

I like drinking coffee, cooking without recipes, reading literary fiction and watching whimsical mystery shows. Read More…
